I've been doing a series on Facebook for fun called #etudesonthewrongflute or #etudesonmaybethewrongflute. Many flute etudes were written for a 1, 5, or 8-keyed flute, and not for the modern silver flute, yet we continue to work out problems with these pieces. Sometimes, these etudes are still helpful, as is the case for Karg-Elert. Sometimes, they are not, like the Andersen Etudes, written to work out fingering problems on a flute system that is long gone. I enjoy playing through these during the pandemic, and so does my great-nephew and my goddaughter.
