Benjamin Smith is the instructor of bassoon at the University of West Georgia. Smith has pursued graduate studies at the University of Georgia and Baylor University following undergraduate studies at West Texas A&M University. An active performer, he has held positions with the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra, Amarillo Opera, Amarillo Little Theatre, Symphony Orchestra Augusta, and was principal bassoonist of the Quartz Mountain Music Festival as well as being a participant of the 2006 Sarasota Music Festival. He has had the privilege of sharing the stage with Jim Walker, Bradley Garner, Thomas Bacon, and Harry Waters, as well as the honor of performing in master classes for K. David Van Hosen, Nancy Goeres, John Miller, Jeffrey Lymann, William Winstead, Robert Williams, Kirstin Wolfe Jensen, and Carl Nitchie. Primary teachers have been Dr. Tina Carpenter and Amy Marinello.
