Panic, Prayer, and Back Again

This piece is being entered for the 2013 Young Composers Competition. A daydream came to me while I was working on this piece. I imagined a man going on a pleasant walk through the woods during evening time. He like to wander, though, so he strays off the path into an unfamiliar part of the woods. As the evening gets darker, he begins to panic. And then panic with fear, until he is utterly frantic and wild. Suddenly, he hallucinates, hears, or really does see something very strange, very unsettling, like a white ghost drifting aimlessly in the dark, or faint church melodies emanating from the wood itself. I'll leave that something up to your imagination. In any case, I hope you enjoy it. Please forgive the inconsistencies between the printed notes and the flow of the piece.
